El Ceibal: la ciudad de las ceibas.

El sitio debe su nombre a Teobert Maler, uno de los primeros investigadores en visitar el sitio, Ceibal hace referencia a la abundancia de ceibas en esta ciudad Maya, inicialmente se llamó Seibal conociéndose así por muchos años, sin embargo, actualmente se usa Ceibal por ser la ortografía correcta en castellano (Flores Cristales 2015, 25). (Véliz Corado s.f.). Localizado a las orillas del río La Pasión al sur del departamento de El Petén, Guatemala, considerada una de las ciudades más importantes de la civilización maya.
