Algunos usos de la obsidiana entre los pobladores de las antiguas ciudades Mayas

¿Qué es la obsidiana?

La obsidiana es un vidrio volcánico que se origina cuando la lava volcánica, con alto contenido de sílice y aluminio, alcanza los 600 grados Celsius de temperatura y luego se enfría rápidamente, (Pastrana, s.f.). Clasificada como vidrio por la mineralogía, la misma es dura y frágil, transparente y translúcida, con una característica fractura, aguda, recta y constante, permitiendo la elaboración de diversos tipos de instrumentos.
